Overview

We support cast iron machining, boring, and repair through a hybrid model. Some work runs at our Ontario facility; larger or specialized jobs are coordinated through vetted Canadian partners for schedule and fit-for-purpose equipment.

⚠️ Hybrid fulfillment: not all cast iron work is performed at our facility. Routing is selected for capability, cost, and schedule—under Pearson QA.

Common Types
Gray, Ductile (nodular)
Typical Ops
Boring, facing, threading, rework
Strength/Ductility
Ductile > Gray (tensile/elong.)
Damping
Gray ≫ Ductile > Steel
TypeKey TraitsTypical Uses
Gray IronVery high vibration damping; good compressive strength; brittle in tensionMachine bases, housings, engine blocks, brake components
Ductile IronHigher tensile strength & ductility; good machinabilityPressure parts, pump housings, gearboxes, automotive & heavy machinery
Ni-Resist / Meehanite familiesNi-Resist: austenitic, corrosion/heat-resistant; Meehanite: controlled process for consistent propertiesValves/pumps, high-temp/corrosive service; precision engineered castings

Cast Iron Capabilities We Provide Access To

  • Boring & Reaming: accurate finishing of large bores & mounting holes
  • CNC Milling: pocketing, surfacing, facing & slotting of rigid castings
  • Manual Machining: custom rework, adjustments & part recovery
  • Threading: coarse & fine threads in thick-walled cast parts
  • Repair Machining: crack repair, worn surface rework & remanufacturing
  • Installation Prep: machining bases/mounts for bolt-up installations

Why Choose Our Cast Iron Services?

  • Minimized chipping & cracking with optimized tooling & fixturing
  • Consistent, accurate results on heavy, brittle materials
  • Extended part life through precision repair & rework
  • Cost savings vs full replacement of large castings
  • Expert handling of both gray & ductile iron for reliability

Equipment Used In-House or By Our Partners

  • Horizontal boring mills & large-format boring bars
  • 3- and 4-axis CNC milling centers
  • Manual precision lathes & turning centers
  • Heavy-duty drill presses & tapping rigs
  • Weld-prep stations & post-weld machining tools
  • Rigging cranes & modular fixturing systems

Supported Cast Iron Materials

  • Gray Iron – excellent vibration damping; ideal for machine bases & housings
  • Ductile Iron – high strength & ductility; suited to pressure/impact parts
  • Meehanite & Ni-Resist – controlled-process and nickel-alloy cast irons for wear/corrosion resistance

Typical Applications

  • Pump housings & hydraulic manifolds
  • Engine brackets & structural castings
  • Valve bodies & manifold rework
  • Base & mount machining for large assemblies
  • Custom cast component restoration & repair

Frequently Asked Questions

What cast iron materials do you support?

We machine gray iron, ductile iron, Meehanite, Ni-Resist, and other specialty alloys through in-house and partner capabilities.

How do you prevent chipping in brittle castings?

We minimize cracking by selecting appropriate tooling geometries, feed rates, and rigid fixturing, whether at our facility or through certified Canadian partners.

Can you repair cracked or worn cast iron parts?

Yes. We coordinate weld buildup, crack remediation, and post-weld machining — performed in-house or through trusted partner shops — to restore casting functionality.

What size parts can you handle?

We support large castings up to ~2m length and ~1.5m width via internal and partner facilities with heavy-duty fixtures and overhead cranes.

Is this manufactured in-house?

We operate a hybrid fulfillment model. Some cast iron machining is performed in-house; other projects are fulfilled through vetted Canadian partners depending on size, tolerance, and scope.
