Overview

We specialize in machining engineering plastics—UHMW, Delrin, Nylon, PTFE, and more. Whether your job is completed in-house or through our trusted Canadian supplier network, we ensure clean edges, tight tolerances, and proper handling for food-grade, chemical-resistant, and custom plastic components.

Plastic machining overview

Our Plastic Capabilities

Our plastic machining capabilities — performed in-house or through our local manufacturing partners — include:

  • CNC Milling: high-speed milling, slotting & profiling of complex plastic parts
  • Manual Machining: trimming, rework & low-volume specialty jobs
  • Turning: precision bushings, caps, guides & washers in plastic stock
  • Slotting & Boring: burr-free holes & keyed slots in flexible materials
  • Prototyping: fast one-off runs for R&D & functional testing
  • Assembly & Finishing: deburring, chamfering & ready-to-install components

Why Plastic?

  • Lightweight & corrosion-resistant for harsh environments
  • Low friction & wear resistance in moving assemblies
  • Excellent chemical & food-safe options available
  • Tight tolerances and clean edges on soft materials
  • Minimal thermal deformation with proper feeds & coolant

Our Equipment

Our team or trusted Canadian partners use the following plastic-optimized equipment:

  • 3-axis & 4-axis CNC mills with plastic-specific tooling
  • Manual knee mills & turning centers for small runs
  • Precision drill presses & tapping rigs with low-backlash chucks
  • Boring bars & reamers optimized for plastics
  • Air-blast chip control for clean machining
  • Deburring & polishing stations for smooth finishes

Plastics We Commonly Machine

  • UHMW – ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene for wear parts
  • Delrin (Acetal) – stiff, low-moisture, precision components
  • Nylon (PA6/PA66) – strong, resilient wear parts
  • PTFE (Teflon) – chemical-resistant, low-friction applications
  • HDPE, PVC, Polycarbonate & specialty blends available

Typical Applications

  • Food-processing guides & wear strips
  • Medical device housings & insulators
  • Chemical handling valves & seals
  • Lightweight structural components & enclosures
  • Custom jigs, fixtures & low-friction bearings

Plastic Machining FAQ

What tolerances can you hold in plastic?

We routinely achieve ±0.002″ (±0.05 mm) on critical plastic features, with tighter tolerances on request.

Do you machine food-safe plastics?

Yes—UHMW, PTFE, and other FDA-compliant materials are machined in a dedicated area to prevent cross-contamination.

How do you control heat when machining plastics?

We use optimized feeds, speeds, and coolant strategies to minimize thermal distortion and ensure smooth finishes.

Can you bond or assemble plastic parts?

We offer adhesive bonding and ultrasonic welding for many engineered plastics, plus mechanical fastening prep.

Is this manufactured in-house?

Some plastic machining is completed at our Ontario shop, while other jobs are fulfilled through trusted Canadian manufacturing partners. Pearson oversees every stage — from sourcing and machining to quality control and delivery.
