Overview

Pearson Manufacturing provides access to precision drilling and tapping for metals and plastics. Some work is performed at our Ontario facility, while large‑format, high‑volume, or specialized operations are routed through trusted Canadian partners. We coordinate sourcing, QA, and delivery so your parts arrive install‑ready.

⚠️ Hybrid fulfillment: projects may be routed in‑house or through partners based on geometry, timing, and production scale.

Drilling & Tapping Capabilities

  • Manual & CNC drilling/tapping with fixture‑based positional control and probing
  • UNC/UNF & metric threads; pipe threads (NPT/NPS) by review
  • Blind/through holes; deep holes (~3–4×D+ treated as deep — peck cycles & tooling review)
  • Reaming for tight‑size bores; counterbores & countersinks to spec
  • Thread milling for large, hard, or delicate features and custom forms
  • Pattern drilling with dowel‑pin or probe alignment strategies
  • Verification: GO/NO‑GO threads, pin gages, CMM spot‑checks; FAIR/FAI and CoC as needed
  • Post‑op deburr, edge‑break, and finish coordination (anodize, passivation, black oxide, etc.)

Supported Materials

We machine a wide range of metals and plastics — in‑house or via Canadian partners:

  • Aluminum: 6061‑T6, 7075‑T6
  • Steels: 1018, 1045, 4140 (pre/post HT by spec)
  • Stainless: 303, 304, 316/316L
  • Brass & copper alloys
  • Plastics: Acetal (Delrin/POM), Nylon, ABS, PC, UHMW

Why Choose Our Drilling & Tapping?

  • Clean, burr‑controlled holes and threads that assemble first time
  • Rapid setup for prototypes and bridge production
  • Hybrid routing (in‑house + partners) to meet aggressive dates
  • Material versatility across metals & engineering plastics
  • Single PO with Pearson QA, documentation, and logistics

Equipment Used In‑House or by Our Partners

We leverage a full suite of drilling and tapping machinery, including:

  • CNC vertical mills with rigid tapping & probing
  • Dedicated tapping centers & turret drills
  • Manual drill presses & radial arm drills
  • Deep‑hole support fixtures & peck drilling cycles
  • Reamers, thread mills, and form taps for application‑specific needs
  • GO/NO‑GO thread gages, pin gages, and CMM inspection (by request)

Typical Applications

  • Mounting patterns for brackets, covers, and plates
  • Threaded ports for fluid power (with c’sinks/spotfaces)
  • Electromechanical assemblies requiring precise hole alignment
  • Manifolds, flanges, and custom fittings
  • Repair & refurbishment of damaged threads (chase or re‑machine)

Design for Manufacturability (DFM)

  • Use standard drill sizes & thread series (UNC/UNF, ISO metric) to shorten lead time.
  • For blind holes, specify effective thread depth (not just total hole depth) and allow tap relief at the bottom.
  • Keep minimum edge/wall distances around holes ≥ ~1.5×D (steel) and ≥ ~2×D (aluminum) where possible; increase for weak sections.
  • Call out critical positional tolerances only where function requires; keep others at commercial levels.
  • Note finish/coat (e.g., anodize) so pre‑coat sizes are adjusted for fit.
  • Provide STEP/IGES + PDF with thread series, pitch, class, and any gage/inspection notes.

Figures above are guidelines. We’ll review your drawing/CAD and confirm achievable specs with the best routing (in‑house or partner) before kickoff.

Drilling & Tapping FAQs

How do I get a same‑day quote?

Upload your PDF with hole sizes, thread series/class, material, qty, and any finish or inspection needs. Include STEP/IGES if available. We’ll route in‑house or with partners to hit your date. Start your quote and we’ll respond quickly.

Is work performed in‑house or through partners?

Both. We handle a large portion in‑house and route specialty, large‑format, or overflow to trusted Canadian partners — all under Pearson QA and a single PO.

How small/large can you go on holes & threads?

Typical range is ≈ #0–1.0″ (≈ 0.06–25.4 mm) for holes and ~M1.6–M24 (or UNC/UNF equivalents) for threads. Larger/smaller features may be possible after review.

Can you verify threads and hole position?

Yes. GO/NO‑GO gaging, pin‑gage checks, and CMM spot‑inspection are available. FAIR/FAI and CoC can be supplied on request.

Do you support rush orders or scheduled releases?

Absolutely. Provide your needed‑by date or release plan — we’ll propose the fastest viable routing and capacity. Start your quote and we’ll respond quickly.
